I have set up a coffee maker with mugs and coffee for guests before, but I finally found a spot to keep a permanent coffee bar in our guest room! I have this secretary desk in our guest bedroom for storage. Since we aren’t using the piece as a desk anymore, this was the perfect place to set one up.
We had an extra Keurig machine (things you find when you are cleaning out the basement!). There is a hole on the top part of the desk in the back for computer cords so it was easy to hide the cord for the Keurig. Underneath that top part has space where I set up a tray of essentials such as a cell phone or tablet charger and small sizes of toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
The pull down part of the desk is large and is the perfect spot for our guest to sit and enjoy their coffee. I didn’t have coffee stirrers so I used plastic spoons and some fun straws instead. All of these items (besides the desk and Keurig machine) I had on hand and were purchased inexpensively at Home Goods. You can find K-cups there at a great price as well as pretty mugs, straws, napkins and small artwork. The gold rimmed mirrored tray is from an antique store.
Here is a view of the room with the desk pulled down in relation to the bed. There is still room to walk in the room.
And here is a photo of the desk closed up. The hutch also serves as a TV stand.
I love finding new life and purpose for old furniture and old things. I hope this article about setting up a guest room coffee bar inspires you to use a piece in a different way than what it was intended for. Or perhaps you already have! I would love to hear about it!
